SPOTLIGHTING WITH LIMESTONE COAST WINE SHOW INTERNATIONAL WINE JUDGE

As part of the 2014 Limestone Coast Wine Show, Tim Kidman from Wood Block Wines, along with a select group of Coonawarra’s other boutique wine companies, had the pleasure of entertaining Fongyee Walker MW, international wine judge and colleague Danielle Liu for a lovely lunch at Upstairs at Hollicks. A specially selected wine from each of the wineries was enjoyed with Fongyee giving everyone a much greater appreciation of the dynamic nature of wine in China.

Plenty of questions were asked of Fongyee and all were thoughtfully answered, drawing her vast depth of knowledge of the world of wine and the current wine trends in China.

For something a little bit different, that evening, Jon Kidman of Banks Thargo Wines and our Tim Kidman (yes we’re distant cousins) took Fongyee and Danielle spotlighting searching for wildlife around Tim’s vineyard and in the local bush.

We were able to spot several wombats going about their nocturnal business - (they are a laid back sort of animal and don’t care much about who’s looking at them) along with a couple of scrub wallabies and many kangaroos hopping.

Danielle commented that there were so many stars and they were so very bright – living and working in large cities with lots of ambient light means not too many stars in the night sky.

It was a pleasure to meet Fongyee and Danielle, and learn so much more about the current wine trends in China.
